GuruShots ran a challenge called “Creative Portraits” with a chance to be featured in the UK’s largest magazine “The Daily Express”. I was notified today that I was ranked #8 out of the the 75,000 entries and was published in the magazine!

I received an email today congratulating me on having my photos selected and published in the Dodho Magazine for the “Magazine Worthy Shot” challenge I entered. They provided me a link to the online publication as well. This was definitely a pleasant surprise!

If you know anything about me, you know that I like to go out and explore, I like to find different things to shoot. I had planned to go out and shoot the Pleasure Pier at night with the lights and reflections. While we were waiting for the sun to go down, I wanted to see if I could catch the pier with the sun behind it.

My “Pleasure Pier” photo will be 1 of 40 photos PRINTED and showcased in the Powerful Composition Exhibition located at the Berlin Blue Art gallery located in Berlin, Germany!

Typically, I have to enter a competition or reach out and do the work to get my photos featured; however, this one was a little different. I received an email from Voyage Houston asking to use one of my Instagram photos in their article “Flashes & Strokes: a Tale of Two Mediums”. I agreed and they posted my Instagram photo and continued to stay in contact with me.

When I visited the WPPI Expo in Las Vegas, there were several vendors who had models setup for you take test out their cameras and equipment. One of the more interesting setups was the Olympus booth, and I stopped by at the right time to catch Raquel Romans (the model) with some free time. She was able to pose for me and give me direct eye-contact so I could capture this shot.

This photo was selected as the Top Photo Winner in the GuruShots - Infinity photo challenge! There were over 25,000 photos entered, 5.7 million total votes, and I took the top spot!

At the end of February, Christen, Brad and I had the chance to go to the WPPI Expo in Las Vegas. I had one of my photos on display at the expo and I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to be there. Christen and I had never been to Vegas before so it was even more exciting to visit a new place, especially Vegas!

The WPPI Exposition, along with GuruShots, B&H Photo/Video, and Canon, is featuring the “Exhibition Shot” exhibition and they chose my photo to be printed live by Canon, and put on display at the expo.  

I made it my New Years Resolution to get out and shoot more, I decided the best way to do it was to schedule a monthly shoot “somewhere”. Brad and I decided to go to Galveston and hit up some places that were off the beaten path. We’ve heard of the abandoned Falstaff Brewery; however, we ran across these old abandoned rail cars tucked away near the railroad tracks.
